Fenway Park, Boston, MA — In the series opener between two historic rivals, the New York Yankees took down the Boston Red Sox 4-0 thanks to Giancarlo Stanton’s productive night at the plate and the Yankees’ arms pitching a shutout.

Starter Luis Gil would pitch six and a third scoreless innings, working around two hits and striking out two, earning his first win of the season. The Yankee bullpen would shut down the Red Sox the rest of the way, pitching two and two-thirds of shutout ball.

The Yankees would light up the scoreboard in the top of the second thanks to a moon-shot over the Green Monster by Stanton, putting the Yankees ahead, 1-0.

Stanton would drive in two more runs for the Yankees in the top of the sixth.

Amed Rosario drew a lead-off walk, and Aaron Judge drew a second-straight walk to put two on, with nobody out. Stanton would plate two runs with an RBI double, to put New York ahead 3-0.

The Yankees would score again in the top of the eighth inning.

Cody Bellinger dropped a one-out single into left field, and one batter later, Randal Grichuk would tack on to the lead with an RBI double, putting New York ahead 4-0.

The Good: Giancarlo Stanton was very productive at the plate; he accounted for three of the four Yankees’ runs, clubbing a homer and a two-run double. For the season, Stanton is batting .256, with 3 home runs and 13 RBIs.

The Bad/The Ugly: Boston’s offense was off-balance the entire night — as a team, they managed only three hits and were unable to figure out Gil or the Yankees’ relievers.
