Fenway Park, Boston, MA — In the series finale between historic rivals, the New York Yankees swept the Boston Red Sox in a close game, 4-2. The Yankees’ sweep was the first at Fenway since September of 2021.

New York’s starter Cam Schlittler was outstanding; he pitched 8 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, striking out 5, and earned his third win of the season.

Boston’s starter Payton Tolle started his season debut with a bang, striking out the first five batters he faced. Tolle would toss 6 innings, allowing 1 run while fanning 11; ultimately, he would earn a no-decision.

Boston would strike first in the bottom of the second. Trevor Story reached base on a throwing error by Amed Rosario with two outs. One batter later, Marcelo Mayer plated Story with an RBI double, putting Boston ahead, 1-0.

The Yankees would tie the game up in the top of the fifth. Jazz Chislom Jr. would hit a lead-off homer to the short right field porch, his first of the season, to tie the game at 1 apiece.

Boston would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Carlos Narvaez would smash his first homer of the year over the Green Monster in left field, to put Boston ahead 2-1.

The Yankees would take the lead in the top of the seventh.

After two back-to-back singles from Trent Ghrisham and Chisolm Jr. to put two on with one out, Jose Callabero dropped a single to center field to load the bases. Cody Bellinger would pinch hit and notch a two-out two-run double to put the Yankees ahead 3-2. Aaron Judge would tack on to the lead with an RBI single, putting New York up 4-2.

The Good: Boston starter Payon Tolle would pitch a strong outing, tossing 6 innings, while giving up one run and striking out 11. Unfortunately, the bullpen couldn’t hold onto the lead, causing him to earn a no-decision. The Yankees’ starter Schlittler was even better — pitching 8 innings, while giving up two runs, one of them earned, notching his third win of the season.

The Bad/The Ugly: Boston’s bullpen couldn’t hold onto a one-run lead in the seventh, with reliever Danny Coulombe surrendering three runs in two-thirds of an inning in relief.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
