Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL — In the series finale between N.L. Central rivals, the Milwaukee Brewers swept the Chicago Cubs 5-0 thanks to strong pitching and capitalizing on Chicago’s miscues.

The Brewers struck first in the top of the second inning thanks to a fielding error by Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Sal Frelick reached first base on catcher’s interference. Shortly after getting first base, Frelick swiped second base. Joey Ortiz worked a walk to put two on, with one away.

One batter later, David Hamilton hit a single to center field, and the ball went under Crow-Armstrong’s glove, a fielding error, scoring three runs to put Milwaukee ahead 3-0.

The Brewers would scratch across another run in the top of the third inning.

William Contreras reached base via a walk to lead off the top of the third inning. Contreras would reach third on a stolen base and a throwing error by Carson Kelly. Jake Bauers would plate Contreras with an RBI single through the right side, making it 4-0 Brewers.

Cub’s starter Edward Cabrera would leave the game in the top of the fourth inning with a middle finger blister; he tossed 3 innings, giving up one run and striking out two.

The Brewers would tack on to their lead in the top of the seventh inning.

Hamilton hit a triple with one out, and in the next at-bat, a wild pitch would score Hamilton to put the Brewers up 5-0.

The Good: The Brewer’s starter, Kyle Harrison, pitched a gem — tossing seven shutout innings, while striking out 11 on his way to earning the win. Harrison’s fastball was unhittable, and the Cubs’ hitters were off-balance the whole night.

The Bad/The Ugly: The Cubs’ defense was miserable — PCA committed a fielding error that cost the Cubs 3 runs, and another run was scored after Carson Kelly committed a throwing error. Additionally, a wild pitch would score the Brewers’ fifth run.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
