Arlington, TX — The Texas Rangers shut out the Seattle Mariners 3-0, sweeping the three-game series behind superb pitching and timely offensive production.
Despite an elevated pitch count, Mackenzie Gore shut out the Mariners through 5 innings on nine strikeouts.
Gore carried a no-hitter into the top of the fifth, until Mitch Garver had a base knock to left field. RHP Chris Martin was brought in from the bullpen in the sixth inning to replace Gore.
RHP Luis Curvelo pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning. RHP Cole Winn slammed the door closed in the 9th inning, pitching a scoreless frame and earning the save.
Mariner’s starter Bryan Woo cruised through four innings until the Rangers opened the scoring in the fifth by stringing together base hits and capitalizing on Seattle’s fielding mistake.
Following an infield single from Danny Jansen in the bottom of the fifth, Josh Smith singled to put two runners on, with one out. Duran kept the line moving, with a single to left field to load the bases.
Brandon Nimmo hit a roller to first base, and a fielder’s choice and an errant throw allowed two runs to score, making it 2-0 Texas.
Wyatt Langford drew a walk to reload the bases, and Seager hit an RBI sac-fly to deep left-center field to put the Rangers up 3-0.
The Good: Texas Rangers’ pitching. The Rangers’ pitching staff shut out the Mariners, holding them to just a single hit over 9 innings.
The Bad/The Ugly: Seattle’s defense — a throwing error by the just-called-up Connor Joe ultimately cost Seattle 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth, and the game.
